Clinical Laboratory Gets NABL Certification

Chandigarh Clinical Laboratories (CCL) has been awarded certification from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories for (NABL) medical testing in six major disciplines.

CCL’s Managing Director R.R. Khanna said, "We have received accreditation for clinical Biochemistry, clinical pathology, hematology and immune-hematology, microbiology and serology, histopathology and cytopathology".

The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) is an autonomous body under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology Government of India.

Private Lab Gets Accreditation for Clinical Tests

Chandigarh: National Accreditation board for Testing & Calibration for laboratories (NABL) has approved a first of –its-kind private medical laboratories for Chandigarh and neighbouring states for conducting clinical trials on new and emerging drugs.

The board has also awarded it certification for medical testing in six major disciplines. Stating that the accreditation was granted on February 15 after assessments were made by a group of NABL scientists, RR Khanna, managing director of the laboratory, said, "The approvals we have are for clinical biochemistry, pathology, hematology and immune hematology, microbiology and serology, histopathology and cytopathology."

Khanna added that the lab would work with pharmaceutical companies to conduct clinical trials in coming time. "The lab now has a globally –acknowledged edge in medical testing procedures and we aim to translate this into significantly improved trials, "khanna said.

At present, there are 54 such labs in the country in 13 states and UT,s. Quality manager Dr-Taruna khanna explained, "Lab accreditation provides formal recognition to the laboratory and offers means for customers to find reliable testing facilities." NABL is an autonomous body under the department of science and technology, government of India, and maintains links with organizations like the International laboratory Accreditation Conference (ILAC) and Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC). That renders all test results from its accredited laboratories acceptable across the world.

Taking to media persons here, CCL managing director RR Khanna said: "The accreditation will enhance people's confidence and satisfaction in testing reports, beside helping medical experts in deciding the line of treatment."

NABL is a signatory International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation arrangement based on peer evaluation by a multi-disciplinary team from Asia pacific laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC).

CCL has become the first private medical enterprise the tricity to conduct clinical trials on new and emerging drugs to combat diseases, Khanna added.

UT sanctions outsourcing of Laboratory facilities.

UT Health Department has sanctioned the outsourcing of the laboratory facilities at 24 Civil Dispensaries, Community Health Centres of Sectors 22 and Manimajra and Polyclinic, Sector 45, at highly subsidized rates.

Free laboratory services will be provided to Yellow Card Holders and 25 percent discount will be given to poor patients other than those of Below Poverty Line in these laboratories, announced UT home-cum Health Secretary Krishna Mohan.

"This facility will be extended to all the Government Medical Institutions, dispensaries, CHCs and polyclinics after successful implementation of the first phase." he added.

The rates of 63 investigations have been fixed as per the rates charged in Government Multispeciality Hospital, Sector 16, and in case the same are not on the said list the rates prevailing with PGI/ Government approved agencies of firm will be applicable which ever is minimum.

These services will enable patients living in various parts of city to have laboratory Investigations conducted at government rates, which are much cheaper than the market. Government rates are about 40 per cent of the prevalent market rates. It would also reduce the rush of patients in GMSH-16 laboratory.

The laboratory will ensure the availability of sample collection by the technicians using dispensary working hours, minimum of three hours.

The user charges fixed by the Chandigarh Administration in respect of the test would be properly displayed and the report with regard to the test conducted will be given on the same day where applicable. The test will be conducted in most scientific manner by using/ providing sterilized disposable syringe and needles.

CCL Gets Central Govt. Accreditation

The Chandigarh Clinical Laboratories Private Limited (CCL) have become the first laboratory in the region to get the coveted approval of the Union government for the purpose of diagnostic test facilities.

Addressing media persons here yesterday, managing director Ravi Raj Khanna claimed that apart from the PGI, CCL is the only laboratory that has been given this accreditation. "This has become possible only due to the state-of-art equipment available at our laboratory to carry out various diagnostics tests. A team of experts from the office of Director Health Service, Chandigarh and the Union government conducted a number of inspections of our facilities. Only after their approval for accreditation was granted," he said.

He said all Central and state government employees, who are entitled to the reimbursement of their medical bills can avail the facility.

He also disclosed that the CCl has also started a number of laboratories in various zonal hospitals and public health centres in the districts of Mandi, Kangra and Hamirpur.

He also claimed that their laboratories were equipped to carry out some of the tests that no other laboratory in the region is able to do "With our network of collection centers, we have established our leadership in diagnostics clinical laboratory service in the region. Presently, we are also on the approved panel of various major industries and public sector institutions," Khanna said.

Prof Harminder Singh and Dr. (Col) AK Gupta also addressed the media persons.

Centre, Laboratory Sign MoU

With the signing of an MoU between the Government of India and Chandigarh Clinical Laboratories (CCL), it has become the only laboratory in the region apart from the PGI, to get this approval for providing various diagnostic facilities to the people.

Disclosing this at a press conferences here today, the Managing Director of the CCL, Mr R.R. Khanna, said the approval was given after very stringent inspections by a team of experts from the Director, Health Services, UT, and the Centre, along with doctors from different streams of laboratory medicine.

He said now the CCL would provide various diagnostics tests, including bio chemical, microbiological, histopathology, immunoassays, heamatological tests, drug assays, hormones and cancer marker tests.

He further said another achievement for the CCL was the collaboration with the Indian Red Cross for running laboratories in Zonal Hospitals and adjoining Primary Health Centers in the districts of Mandi, Kangra and Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.

Mr Khanna, said the CCL had been taking keen interest in promoting continuing medical education programmes in the region by holding regular seminars and updating physicians, surgeons and general practitioners with advances in laboratory medicine through its quarterly CCL News Letter.
